Frequently Asked Questions
Who uses physical therapy?
Physical therapy is an option for people who are looking for pain relief by increasing flexibility, or building strength. Physical Therapy can also help improve posture, where abnormal strains on muscles can lead to pain and potential long-term chronic pain.
What should I wear?
Your clothes should allow us to comfortably evaluate your area of injury and to help you stretch and exercise. Please wear something comfortable, casual, and non-restrictive that allows for movement. We suggest comfortable, closed-toe shoes, preferably sneakers.
How long does each visit take?
The initial visit takes 90 minutes – a little longer than the subsequent visits to allow for paperwork and the completion of the assessment process. Normally, appointments are between 30 and 60 minutes.
How long will I need physical therapy?
You will need to attend physical therapy sessions until you and your therapist decide that you have reached your desired level of function or that further therapy would not be beneficial. If your physician referred you, they will want to monitor your progress as well.
When should I start seeing improvement?
We will create a personalized treatment plan for you, including follow up and regular maintenance visits to our physical rehab clinic. We will keep you informed about your progress as well. If at any point you feel like you’re not progressing at a satisfactory rate, we will collaborate with you to modify your treatment plan.
Will you keep in contact with my doctor?
Unless you are self-referred, we will have received a physician’s report from your doctor. After your initial evaluation we will send a copy of our examination notes to your doctor and keep them informed with regular progress notes on your range of motion, muscle strength, ambulation, and general progress. If any issues arise, we typically give your physician a call to discuss them.
Will I see the same physical therapist every time?
We make every attempt to schedule you with the same therapist to help establish a relationship and ensure continuity of care. However, there may be times when another physical therapist will treat you to accommodate your schedule. All of our talented physical therapists are fully licensed and very engaged in their work.
Will my insurance pay for physical therapy?
Generally, most insurance companies provide coverage for physical therapy. See our payments and insurance page for a complete overview of payment options.
Do I need a physician’s referral for physical therapy?
As of July 1, 2013, individuals in the state of Kansas are not required to have a physician’s referral to receive treatment from a physical therapist.
